EMC STORAGE ADMINISTRATOR

Location: Calgary, Alberta

The Storage Administrator will be involved with daily storage operational tasks such as provisioning, storage connectivity, storage allocation, incident, problem management and the implementation of changes to the storage operational infrastructure.

 As a member of the storage team the individual will be required to perform administration tasks primarily on EMC storage devices along with some project work.  Planning and executing upgrades and enhancements to the environment are part of the role.  As a senior associate, this individual will provide guidance and mentorship to other members of the team.  Some backup and restore activities will be required. This individual must be available on-call and for after-hours maintenance changes from time to time and act as a point of escalation for technical problems encountered at this site.

 

  Perform storage device preparation and initialization,

-          Install, configure, maintain, operate and apply patches & fixes to storage environment, including the operating system, firmware and tools

-          Upgrade and maintain firmware, drivers and microcode for storage arrays, SAN switches and other devices that are part of the enterprise storage systems or SAN Fabric

-          Manage space and utilization of storage

-          Perform test of high availability environment

-          Verify availability and sufficient capacity of file systems during scheduled service times

-          Provide reports of space utilization

-          Create file systems and allocate storage on Storage Area Network (SAN) as directed by Customer.

-          Perform volume management tasks on Storage Area Network (SAN)

-          Maintain and operate storage management tools.

-          Maintain and monitor synchronization and replication of data between sites.

-          Manage storage system interfaces, disk sub-systems and peripherals.

-          Perform data migrations in the course of storage management and realignment according to requirements.

-          Monitor Storage and produce reports using client’s tools.

-          Perform Network Attached Storage (NAS) administration and support tasks

-          Perform initial investigation for all Storage Incidents and Co-ordinate SAN and Fabric incidents with other support groups

-          Coordinate driver and firmware patches for SAN driver upgrades as determined by client

-          Ensure hosts (Unix / Windows) have connectivity to fabric working closely with server teams.

-          Perform Shutdown and Start-up of storage infrastructure as required

-          Keep configuration and Asset information current for all Storage infrastructure

-          Adhere to client processes for decommissioning of servers attached to SAN (ie. Storage reclamation, zoning cleanup, fiber cable cleanup)

-          Follow fiber channel cable installation procedures for each data center when required.

  • Participate in the Customer Out-of-hours (OOH) support process to deal with Customer defined high priority incidents occurring outside of normal business hours.
  • Resolution of storage related incidents
  • Maintain the skill levels to complete the Standard changes (IMACs) and incidents allocated within the incident / problem / change management system
  • Update and maintain the allocated Incident / Problem / Change control tickets in line with the Customer processes and procedures.

·         Maintain an awareness of dependencies off all infrastructure.

·         Create, maintain, and update infrastructure documentation.

·         Ensure all Work Carried out is in accordance with the Customer and SUPPLIER H&S,   Security, Privacy, and code of conduct regulations (in the case of Customer regulations, provided in writing to Supplier and as amended from time to time)

 

 Knowledge

Demonstrating an extensive knowledge levelwith respect to:

  • EMC Clariion,Symmetrix DMX, VMAX, NSX, DCX, Connectrix
  • EMC Symmetrix SRDF
  • Brocade SAN Switch
  • EMC Control Center, Replication Manager, Symmetrix Timefinder, Connectrix Manager, Navisphere Performance Manager, SIM Optimizer,
  • Brocade web CLI,  SAN Health
  • Able to use command line to manage EMC storage devices

 

Nice to have the knowledge of

  • EMC Celerra
  • EMC Celerra manager
  • Symantec NetBackup, TSM, Legato

 Technical Skills

  • Must have an strong technical knowledge of heterogeneous computing environments
  • Must have a solid understanding of mission critical applications and be able to assess the risk and impact associated with change
  • Demonstrate thorough planning and execution in all areas of responsibility
  • Work with vendors or suppliers to resolve issues
  • Utilize analytical tools to pro-actively identify/resolve problems
  • Monitor systems and components for adherence with company standards
  • Design and documentation skills related to a UNIX environment
  • Write technical documents and statements of work
